The resort was located about two hours’ drive from the Colombo airport and had beautiful surroundings; the sea was very close, and there was a swimming pool only a few yards before the sea; from a distance the swimming pool was not visible, so that it seemed the people were swimming in the sea. Shalra, my wife and I got a room on the far corner of the resort, and our immediate neighbor was an elephant; the continuous rattling of its chain indicated the animal’s movements. This could have been disturbing at night, but we liked it as a change from our routine. While we were there, we witnessed a wedding at the resort; the bride had come on the elephant, and the guests were dressed in traditional costumes. Such events were well worth watching for one who has interest in studying different cultures.
